King Salman Park — Ceiling Systems
Project Overview
Reference: KSP-PMCM2-CP-04.00
Client: MBL
Consultant: WSP
Mada Team: Khalid Abdullah, Asif Ahmed, Syed Jahed, Irfan, Meer
The Challenge
The original design specified 70mm mineral wool panels on a T-Grid system. That specification could not achieve the smooth curvatures central to the architectural vision, still had to meet the required NRC acoustic values, and left no room for trial and error on a fast-moving program.
Our Solution
Mada proposed a Rockfon Mono gypsum ceiling system, customized to meet both design and performance needs:
- Engineered the system to bend while maintaining structural integrity, achieving the desired curvatures
- Incorporated Mono facing layers to meet the required acoustic performance
- Reviewed every plan and section drawing with the contractor to ensure precision
- Delivered a full on-site mockup of a critical curved section, flawless and on time
The Outcome
The client was initially skeptical that a gypsum-based system could deliver the curves and acoustics they needed. By the end, they were proud of what Mada’s system made possible. Approximately 40,000 m² have been delivered, with a further 20,000 m² to follow.
Why It Matters
For MBL and WSP, this meant keeping King Salman Park’s signature curved ceiling geometry without trading away acoustic performance or program. The flawless on-site mockup gave the client the confidence to sign off on a form they had assumed was incompatible with a gypsum system, protecting the design vision for one of Riyadh’s most visible public destinations.
